The process of obtaining recognition for theoretical and practical knowledge—gained through paid or unpaid work—, prior education and personal (and other) activities that have contributed to occupational training is called Prior Learning Assessment.

Under certain conditions (see the University regulations) where previously acquired knowledge or skills correspond to the content of one or several courses of a university program, the course—or courses—may, upon evaluation, be recognized.

Assessment does not equate to equivalency, which is granted in the case of courses taken at another higher education institution.
